We helped out client develop promotion strategy to offer enhanced warranty for their high-end PCs for SMEs. Reports from the sales force, and orders, showed a significant increase in volume attributable to the new promotion strategy

  • Business Challenge: A multinational manufacturer of personal computers wanted to develop a distinct market positioning for high-end PCs among Small and Mid-Size Enterprises.
  • Business Result: The study identified a major tactical promotion issue for the brand. To respond to declining sales, our client instituted a costly promotional offer in the form of a large rebate. We discovered that SMEs strongly preferred (estimated value) a warranty extension vs. the rebate despite the actual cost to the manufacturer for the rebate was 60% higher than the actual cost of the extended warranty. Our client switched their promotion strategy to offer an enhanced warranty and dropped the rebate offer. Reports from the sales force, and orders, showed a significant increase in volume attributable to the shift in promotion strategy.

  • Business Challenge: A multinational manufacturer of audio equipment wanted to develop a distinct market positioning for wireless speakers. Wireless speakers were the latest addition to the company’s audio equipment portfolio which included headphones and professional custom-made earphones.
  • Business Result: Competitive perceptual mapping revealed that while audio quality, convenience and price are table stakes in the category, expertise is a key driver and an area where the brand was stronger than its competitors. Expertise also had a strong alignment with the company’s image of being an audio equipment manufacturer for musicians. Leveraging the study insights, the company positioned the brand on expertise for wireless speakers and owned the insight space in the category.
